As the national organization of information and referral (I&R) providers in our country, InformCanada is dedicated to strengthening the I&R field by:
- developing and promoting national standards and best practices
- representing Canadian I&R professionals at the national level
- providing members certification and recertification (in collaboration with its American counterpart)
- providing resources
- offering networking opportunities
InformCanada is the Canadian affiliate of the Alliance of Information & Referral System (InformUSA). Affiliates represent large geographic areas, such as a state or a region. They shape and implement the InformUSA mission locally in order to build and support excellence in the field.
History of InformCanada
Canadian I&R specialists have been attending InformUSA conferences since the first one in Phoenix, Texas, in 1979. The Canadian contingent began offering a Canadian night during these conferences, as a way to network between themselves. The vision of creating a Canadian I&R organization soon emerged and InformCanada was created in 1999 and incorporated the following year.
