An individual certified with InformCanada/InformUSA must recertify every two years. There is no need to re-write the exam unless the certification lapses beyond two years.
How to recertify?
Applicants must:
- complete the Recertification Application.
- document 10 hours of professional development related to I&R
- pay the applicable fee
- ensure that the application and the payment are received by InformCanada prior to the expiry date of the actual certification
A wide range of I&R-specific training is applicable to recertification. Topics should:
- increase knowledge about community resources (support groups, shelters, programs, etc.)
- improve skills (assessments, crisis interventions, database structure or software, etc.)
Training generally not approved is not related to I&R provision, such as: management, administration and first aid training.
Note: InformCanada will attempt to send a reminder via email to certified individuals. However, it is the responsibility of the person to ensure that the recertification application is received in a timely manner.
